Many couples enjoy the enrichment to their relationship that participation in therapy can provide. Read more about my services, or request an appointment today.
My work with couples is based on over four decades of research conducted by Dr. John Gottman. In their work with thousands of couples, Drs John and Julie Gottman have developed methods shown to help couples enrich their friendship and improve how they manage conflict to gain a closer, kinder and more intimate connection. The Gottman Method is designed to help couples of every age, ability, and sexual orientation. Over the years, I have earned the distinction of being a Certified Gottman Method Couples Therapist and am one of a small handful of such therapists in the Intermountain West
Since obtaining my Master's Degree in Social Work, I've worked in substance abuse, disability, oncology, relationship therapy and general practice. In addition to training with the Gottman Institute, I have post-graduate training in substance abuse, behavior change, clinical hypnosis, personality disorders, anxiety, depression, grief, chronic & terminal illness, aging and alternative & complimentary mental health practices.
LGBTQ and heterosexual identities are equally valid, but many in the LGBTQ community have experienced judgment and discrimination in the mental health community. As an affirmative therapist, I have gained the knowledge, self-awareness and skills required to be competent at counseling LGBTQ individuals and/or couples. I am an advocate for LGBTQ people and their relationships, and I am aware of the challenges, oppressive stereotypes and systems facing the LGBTQ community here in Utah.
My Practice
Over the years, I've provided direct service to hundreds of couples and thousands of individuals, in various settings, from all walks of life. Due to COVID-19, I am now meeting with clients via tele-therapy.
I am one of a small handful of Certified Gottman Relationship Therapists in the Intermountain West. Over the years, I've provided direct service to hundreds of couples, in various settings, from all walks of life. My style is warm, open, unconditionally accepting and occasionally humorous.
A little more about me: I was raised mostly in Ogden, Utah but graduated high school in Durango, Colorado. I obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Health Administration and Health Promotion from Weber State University and worked for a number of years in public health with Planned Parenthood Association of Utah and the Utah Department of Health. I later returned to school to earn a Masters of Social Work degree from the University of Utah. During and after graduate school, I worked for the University of Utah in the substance abuse field with adolescents and adults. I went on to enjoy the privilege of working with the Institute on Aging in San Francisco assisting elderly and disabled individuals to live independently in their community. I returned to Salt Lake City to work for several years at Huntsman Cancer Institute, and helped countless patients and their family members cope with their cancer experience. It was here I found my love for helping couples have more intimate, loving and meaningful relationships during difficult times. I also grew adept in diagnosing and treating a wide range of mental health issues.
